JUVENILE GIANT CLAMS PLACED IN THE OCEAN NURSERY CAGES

The dedicated Semporna Islands Project (SIP) hatchery team has carefully relocated and transferred juvenile giant clams from the hatchery to their designated ocean nursery. The transfer represents a critical phase in the giant clams’ life cycle, as they transition from the controlled hatchery environment to the open ocean, where they will continue to mature and contribute to the reef’s ecosystem. These efforts are crucial for bolstering biodiversity and maintaining the delicate balance of the Semporna Islands’ ecosystems. Giant clams play a key role in reef health, filtering water and providing habitat for other marine species.

This project is a testament to the ongoing efforts to revitalize coral reefs and protect endangered species in the region. The SIP team’s work is essential for ensuring the long-term health and resilience of these precious marine environments.
